New project: Fine-Tuned Dice Sets! FREE d20 early backer bonus
about 2 months ago – Tue, Jan 30, 2024 at 10:22:31 AM

Hello backers!  I am so excited to announce my new dice sets :D

I've been spending the last year redesigning the "standard" dice set from the ground up. I overhauled the numbering layouts, experimented with various sizes, and invented a new d4 shape. After hundreds of prototypes I am finally ready to bring these new dice sets to gaming tables around the world.

If you happen to have an extra moment to follow the project on Kickstarter it helps me out a lot with the algorithm. Also, you will get reminders from Kickstarter so you don't miss the FREE d20 for early backers. If not that's totally cool too, no pressure!

Thank you and happy gaming,

David

Everything's Shipped!
11 months ago – Mon, May 01, 2023 at 12:10:37 PM

By now everyone should have an email with tracking information for your shipment. If you don't, please send me a message or email me at [email protected] and I will help you get everything finalized so I can ship your reward.

I was able to ship over 99% of the rewards by the end of April, as promised. There were 3 packages I shipped this morning since I couldn't quite get them out on Saturday before the post office closed. I upgraded the shipping speed so those backers will actually get their rewards faster than if I was able to send them on Saturday, so I think I can count this Kickstarter as fully on time!

These 120-sided dice were an ambitious undertaking; the design, manufacturing, and fulfillment each brought their own set of challenges. You can usually assume a project will take longer and cost more than expected, but that proved especially true for this one. I was barely able to hit my shipping deadline even though I had built months of contingency allowance into the schedule. However, the difficulty of this project made the result that much more satisfying. I am extremely proud of these dice and the feedback from backers who already received them has been overwhelmingly positive.

I sound like a broken record by now, but I must again express my gratitude to everyone who backed this project. When I say that these dice wouldn't be possible without you, I am not exaggerating. Larger companies can't justify the risk of this sort of product; the complexity is too high and the demand is unproven. Creators like me are happy to put in the work to overcome the challenges, but few are able to invest a large sum up front for manufacturing in the hopes they can sell enough later to break even. Backers eliminate this hurdle by confirming that an idea is something customers want and providing the initial capital to make it a reality. Thank you.

Well, I guess that's a wrap on this one! I'll be working hard to get the next project ready which should launch in late summer. If you'd like to get an email reminder about that (and also hear about occasional discounts or sales) you can enter your email at the bottom of this page.

Happy gaming,

David

11 months ago – Tue, Apr 25, 2023 at 09:01:26 AM

Hello backers!

I am pleased to report that I have begun shipping out the rewards! If your reward already shipped you will have an email with with tracking information. All of the remaining rewards will ship out on Friday or Saturday (my wife is taking Friday off so she can look after our toddler during the day so I can make trips to the post office).

If you don't have a confirmation email with tracking information by the end of Saturday, there may an issue with your email address in the system, or perhaps it went to a different email address than you thought. In any case, just message or email me and I will reply with your tracking number.

Thank you as always for your support - I am so excited for each of you to enjoy your new dice!

Happy gaming,

David

Orders Lock on April 17th!
12 months ago – Thu, Apr 06, 2023 at 11:28:48 AM

The final stretch is here and I am pleased to report that I am still on schedule to ship on time!

The BackerKit orders will be locked and your cards will be charged on April 17th. Please make sure you have selected your rewards and any additional items you would like in BackerKit.  If you need any help with that, please message me or email me ([email protected]) and I will be happy to assist.

Please also make sure your shipping address is correct in BackerKit and update it if necessary. Shipping addresses will lock on April 19th so I can begin shipping.

I will leave you with an image of the box containing the cylinder and insert I designed to make sure your dice and accessories are secure during shipping. I am very satisfied with how tightly the insert holds the cylinder in place and I am confident your rewards will arrive safely.

Thank you as always for your support. I have a lot of packing to do so I better get started :D

Happy gaming,

David

Still projected to ship on time (despite some challenges)!
about 1 year ago – Mon, Mar 13, 2023 at 11:14:08 AM

Hello backers!

The production of these beautiful dice is almost finished.  All of the d120 dice have been laser marked with their numbers and are currently in transit. The 120-sided d20s are being marked as we speak and they are last bit of manufacturing that needs to be completed before I can begin all the packing and shipping. The final elements of the packaging are also on the way. Both the cylinders that will hold the dice and the cardboard trays that will hold those cylinders securely in the box for shipping have been manufactured and are in transit.

According to the current schedule I should be shipping all of your rewards in the final week of April.

Manufacturing these dice is an extraordinarily difficult undertaking. Knowing this, I included a generous amount of extra contingency time in the production schedule and it is a good thing I did! In the first batches there were some slight misalignments during the machining process and later some issues with the anodizing that required my machinists to recycle those dice and start over. This meant an additional order of aluminum and steel was needed and we had to wait for that to arrive before completing the machining. The hardness of the 304 stainless steel also required the team to slow down the machining more than anticipated, further adding to the production time.

Despite these challenges, I am currently still on track to ship your rewards by the last day of April as promised!

I want to give a big thank you to my backers. None of this would be possible without your support. There are reasons that you don't see this type of product from larger dice makers. The manufacturing costs are too high and the profit margins too low to justify the design time required and the risk involved. Your support enables me to bring passion projects like this into reality and for that I am deeply grateful.

Happy gaming,

David
